College Major Choice and Its Timing.
Condron, Betsy
The effect on college graduation of selecting a college major before college admission was investigated, the hypothesis being that students who enter college undecided about their major study field are as likely to graduate as those who have already decided upon their major. It was assumed there would be no significant difference in the frequency which these two groups changed their college majors or in the frequency of transfer from one college to another. Questionnaires were sent to a sample composed of graduates from an independent secondary school. The test for a significant difference between two independent sample proportions was used to analyze the data. Results provided support for the hypotheses. (Author)
