Upward Communication in a Large Organization.
Yeager, Samuel James, III
This dissertation examines the effects of a subordinate's trust in an immediate superior, desire for promotion, and perception of supervisory influence upon several qualitative aspects of communication, which include perceived accuracy of communication, directionality of communications, and overall satisfaction with communications. Trust in an immediate superior has greater impact than either desire for promotion or perceived supervisory influence; in fact, the effects of the latter two independent variables are found to be quite small. The effects of superior/subordinate status, hierarchical rank, education, tenure, sex, race, and superior/subordinate demographic differences upon communication are also examined; all of these variables are found to have substantial effects on the majority of the independent and communications variables.
