The primary purpose of this study was to determine if there were significant relationships between the 12 subtest scores of the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities (ITPA) and the seven scores of the verbal and figural tests of the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT). The subjects were a stratified random sample of 40 second grade children composed of 10 white females, 10 black females, 10 white males, and 10 black males. Results indicated that there were significant relationships between the 12 subtest scores of the ITPA and the seven scores of the verbal and figural tests of the TTCT; scores on auditory reception and sound blending from the ITPA were significantly predictive of scores of figural elaboration from the TTCT; scores on figural fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration from the TTCT were significantly predictive of scores on visual reception, visual association, and visual sequential memory from the ITPA; and means of 12 subtest scores from the ITPA for a selected group of black and white children were significantly different at the .01 level of confidence.
