This packet contains the four issues of a newsletter published in 1989 by the Adult Literacy & Basic Skills Unit in England. The Winter issue contains the following articles: "After the Act"; "An Evening at the Theatre"; "Horticulture: A Practical Project with Autistic Adults"; "Shared Reading"; and "Literacy and Adult Basic Education in Industrialized Countries." In the Spring edition are the following: "How Special Are Special Needs?"; "Basic Skills Accreditation Initiative"; "Numeracy--Abstract Art or Basically Boring?"; and "Setting Up an Open Learning Centre." The Summer newsletter contains these items: "Employment Training: Cooperation or Competition?"; "Literacy for the Workplace"; "DeskTop Publishing for Adult Literacy Materials"; and "Making a Start with Computers." In the Autumn issue, the following articles are included: "ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages): A Nation's Neglect"; "Going Dutch!"; "National Writing Festival"; and "DART (Directed Activities Related to Text)--Developing Independent Readers."
