School Enrollment--Social and Economic Characteristics of Students: October 1982. Current Population Reports: Population Characteristics.
Siegel, Paul M.; Bruno, Rosalind R.
Current Population Reports, Series P-20 n408 Sep 1986
This publication's 25 tables display statistics related to enrollment and student characteristics in 1982 at all levels of education from nursery school through the undergraduate years of college. The tables break enrollment figures down to show the numbers enrolled at each level according to age, race, sex, national origin, regional location, marital status, and income. Text introducing the tables discusses major findings and isolates significant trends, paying particular attention to changes between 1972 and 1982. Among these changes have been declines in the number of students enrolled in elementary and secondary schools and increases in the number enrolled in nursery school programs and colleges. The publication also provides appendices including tables with supplementary information; definitions and explanations about the information provided; and a discussion of the sources and reliability of the data used and the estimates based on the data.
