Results of the 1983 Statewide Assessment. Assessment Report 7: An Update on the Alaska Statewide Testing Program.
Interwest Applied Research, Inc., Portland, OR.
The Alaska Statewide Assessment Test is administered to fourth and eighth graders every two years in reading and mathematics. Assessment Report 7 describes how the assessment process works, analyzing results, test content, results for 1983, and statewide average scores. A question-answer format is used to discuss the following: (1) Was students' performance satisfactory? (2) How does 1983 performance compare with 1981? (3) Who scored higher--boys or girls? (4) How does district size affect scores? (5) How well did Alaska Natives do on the test? (6) How might district size relate to Alaska Natives performance? (7) What is the relationship between race and bilingualism? (8) Why are Native students' scores consistently lower? (9) How is performance on one subtest related to performance on another? (10) How good are the Alaska Statewide Assessment Tests? and (11) What impact will these assessment results have on classroom education? Finally, the report discusses interpreting results, plans for 1985, and the 1983 status of Alaskan education. (PN)
