Special Report on the Division of Historical and Anthropological Services. History Directions.
New York State History Network, Spr 1985
This issue both reports on the activities of the Division of Historical and Anthropological Services since its creation in 1979 and documents the record of New York State governmental efforts in history and anthropology that will serve as a resource for future study. "Keepers of the Flame: History and State Government in New York" (Paul Scudiere) documents the history of state programs to preserve New York's historical resources from 1708 to the present. Description of the Historical Services Program includes sections on incorporating historical agencies, county and municipal historians, programming, a seminar on New York State History, women's history programs, the Apple Network of Historical Agencies, the Colonial Albany Social History Project, and the History Collections of the state museum. Description of the Anthropological Services Program includes sections on prehistoric research, including the Upper Susquehanna Project, the archaeology collections, informational services, student and volunteer programs, and public archaeology through the Cultural Resource Survey Program. Also listed are references on New York state archaeology and a listing of current staff of the Division of Historical and Anthropological Services. (IS)
