Women and Technology: Deciding What's Appropriate. Conference Proceedings (Missoula, Montana, April 27-29, 1979). Second Printing and Resource Update.
Smith, Judy; And Others
Proceedings from a conference designed to promote discussion of the changing role of women in technological society is presented. Following an introduction, the first major address of the conference presents a point/counterpoint discussion on feminism and environmentalism (Judy Smith and Gary Kannenberg). "Cultural Images of Women and Technology" (Corky Bush) looks at women's relationship to technology through an examination of paintings and photographs. "History of Women and Technology" (Sue Armitage) considers the role of the common woman and technology through American history. "Women's Need for High Technology" (Jan Zimmerman) looks at the relationship between women, technology, and economic and political participation. "Women and Appropriate Technology" considers appropriate technology from the perspective of local control. A conference synthesis and list of workshops conclude the publication. (LP)
