To explore the issue of communications technology and its impact on the rural school, the National Institute of Education (NIE) convened a 2-day workshop, bringing together 16 participants whose combined expertise and collective experience encompassed rural education and a variety of communications technologies and their applications. The primary goal was to provide NIE with advice on how it can improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the delivery of educational services to rural learners. This report of the meetings provides an overview of the three papers commissioned and distributed to the participants prior to the meetings, excerpts from oral reports, and summaries of the activities of the three work groups during the meeting.
