Presented are proceedings of a conference involving authorities in testing and evaluating the blind, deaf, and deaf-blind. In a paper titled "Psychological Implications of Assessing the Deaf", C. Goetzinger discusses references used in audiology, anatomy and physiology of the ear, degrees of hearing impairment, and implications of the various degrees of hypacusis. Several tests useful for evaluating the visually handicapped child are reviewed in C. Davis's article, "Psychological Aspects Related to Psycho-Diagnostic Evaluation of Blind Children". C. Whiting provides guidelines for report writing in "Assessment of the Deaf-Blind Child in the Public School". In "The Psychological Implications of Testing--A Cautionary Note", E. Greenleaf warns against quoting test results which label the deaf-blind child as retarded. A final paper titled "Psychological Implications of Assessing the Deaf-Blind" (by F. Jamieson) reviews such evaluation techniques as formal tests, informal tests, and observation. Also provided are an outline on areas of assessment and a resource list of tests for use with deaf-blind children. (SBH)
