Information for Families. Communique Special Edition, Summer 1998.
Canter, Andrea, Ed.
"Communique" is the "official newsletter of the National Association of School Psychologists" (NASP). This "Special Edition" of "Communique" is a compilation of previously published articles all of which bear on information frequently requested by families. NASP is dedicated to building partnerships between schools and families to improve the education and mental health of the nation's children. When families and schools work together, children thrive. In this special issue, NASP provides families with practical, concrete suggestions to help make school a positive experience. As a resource for use in relationships with children and schools, NASP provides these materials in order to help parents work together with school psychologists and teachers toward a common goal--promoting healthy, successful children. This issue includes the following articles: (1) "Retention and Promotion" (Andrea Canter and Karen Carey) (2) "Parenting with Love and Logic" and "Parenting Teens with Love and Logic" (book review; Beth Berghoff and Paul Berghoff) (3) "Effective Parenting: Positive Support for Families" (The National Association of School Psychologists); (4) "Section 504" (Michael Perla); (5) "Computers and Children" (William Pfohl and Shawna Ferstl); (6) "Online Advertising and Children" (Victoria Stanhope); (7) "School Phobia/School Avoidance/School Refusal" (Leslie Z. Paige); (8) "Study Skills" (Virginia Smith Harvey); (9) "School Entry Decisions" (Paula Laidig); (10) "Lead Poisoning in Young Children" (Julie McNamara, Thuy Lindsey, and Judy Singer). (MKA)
