Mutual support groups in schools can be developed as part of strategies to provide assistance for parents or other family members, students, or school staff. These groups can also be used to provide support for newcomers and others in periods of transition. This technical aid packet describes the process as used with parents, but the procedures suggested can be adapted readily for use with students or staff. A sequential approach is described that involves working with the school to get started, recruiting members, training them to run meetings, and offering off-site consultation as requested.
