This publication, designed to help teacher educators profit from the experience and wisdom of colleagues, brings together articles from "The Arithmetic Teacher" on preservice elementary school mathematics teacher education. This collection of articles has two specific purposes. One is to serve as a reminder of the broader issues and concerns that must be considered when preparing elementary school mathematics teachers. The other is to provide a source of ideas and activities for use with classes of preservice teachers. The six sections focus on: (1) the mathematics educator as teacher; (2) perspectives on planning an elementary school mathematics teacher education program; (3) the attitudes of preservice teachers; (4) content and content/methods courses; (5) topics from elementary school mathematics; and (6) specific materials and techniques.
