The Challenge of Partnership: Working with Parents of Children in Foster Care.
Maluccio, Anthony N., Ed.; Sinanoglu, Paula A., Ed.
The 11 papers assembled in this volume reflect the readiness of professional social work to develop practice approaches for working with parents of children in foster care. The papers were written from different perspectives, emphasize diverse aspects of foster care, and disagree on many issues. A unifying theme exists, however, in the shared premise that one should work with biological parents as partners, rather than noncontributors or adversaries, to achieve the basic child welfare goal of a secure, stable, and loving home for each child. Papers are presented under four general headings: overview of the book's theme, focus on parents and families, practice approaches for working with parents, and roles and relationships of foster parents with biological parents.
