Schools of Ground Zero: Early Lessons Learned in Children's Environmental Health.
Bartlett, Sarah; Petrarca, John
This book examines the health and safety implications of September 11, 2001, for seven public schools that were in the World Trade Center impact zone. From accounts of students, parents, teachers, and administrators, the report describes: (1) evacuation procedures of these schools on September 11; (2) communication flow between the New York City Board of Education (BOE) officials and parents; and (3) the health and safety decision-making processes of BOE. In addition, it provides policy recommendations that government officials, schools administrators, and parents should consider with respect to emergency preparedness and school health and safety precautions. (An appendix contains related documentation.) (EV)
