Living with Schizophrenia. Psychological Disorders Series, Book 2.
Emmons, Stuart; Geiser, Craig; Kaplan, Kalman J.; Harrow, Martin
Co-written by two individuals with schizophrenia and two psychotherapists who have worked professionally with people experiencing schizophrenia, this book gives first-hand insight into the process and effects of the disease. The patients provide an introduction to the book that includes a list of questions, with their answers, that were asked of them in a psychology class. The patients provide a personal narrative describing their experiences and examples of their use of creativity to help them cope with their disease, namely poetry for one and artwork for the other. The psychotherapists intersperse the introduction and the narratives, and creative examples with comments illuminating the meaning and psychological significance of the information are presented. The therapists also offer a summary concerning each patient. (Contains 26 references.) (Author/MKA)
