AFB Directory of Services for Blind and Visually Impaired Persons in the United States and Canada. 26th Edition.
American Foundation for the Blind, New York, NY.
This directory is a broad-based compilation of schools, agencies, organizations, and programs in the governmental and private, non-profit sectors that provide a wide variety of direct and indirect services, information, and other assistance to individuals with blindness or visual impairments. Organized information on producers and distributors of alternate media, adapted devices, and other products is also included. The directory has separate sections for U.S. and Canadian services. Agencies and organizations have been listed according to whether they provide services to a local area, state, or province, or on a national basis. Early intervention agencies, education agencies, independent living programs, instructional materials centers, libraries, rehabilitation agencies, special schools, and university certification programs are included. The directory has the following main sections: (1) a brief overview of major U.S. and Canadian federal programs; (2) a comprehensive subject index that divides all entries into subject categories and lists them alphabetically within categories; (3) geographical listings arranged state by state and province by province; (4) federal agency listings and listings of agencies and organizations that provide services and information nationally; (5) suppliers of Braille, tape, large-print, and disk formats and manufacturers and distributors of adapted products and devices; and (6) an alphabetical organization index.
