Cases for Community College Teachers: Thought-Provoking and Practical Solutions for Community College Educators!
Kamm, Rebecca
This book offers case studies with the intention of eliciting the active participation of its readers. Five discussion questions follow each case to promote reflection and discussion by teachers. The book can be used as whole or in parts by leaders within an institution or by a speaker/discussion leader presenting at other colleges. In addition, college staff and administrators may be able to utilize the cases as well. The book suggests using them in the following ways: (1) faculty development for large groups; (2) small study groups; (3) student discussion; (4) models for case writing; (5) new teacher workshops or preservice teacher training; and (6) individually for reflection. Case studies include: (1) "First Day"; (2) "Different Perspectives"; (3) "Nontraditional Student"; (4) "Dropout"; (5) "Part-Time Instructor"; (6) "Perceptions of Success"; (7) "Math Animosity"; (8) "Classroom Community"; (9) "Classroom Apathy"; (10) "Community College Stereotypes"; (11) "Commencement Reflections"; (12) "Employer's View"; (13) "Art and Life"; (14) "Classroom Trust"; (15) "The International Student"; (16) "The New Teacher"; (17) "Distance Learning"; (18) "The Grade Dispute"; (19) "Classroom Innovation"; and (20) "Theory vs. Application".
