Leading Kids to Books through Crafts.
Bauer, Caroline Feller
Third in the Mighty Easy Motivators series, this book is a hands-on guide to crafts for pre-school and grade school children to engage in during the literature program, after-school activities, or playtime. The programs in the book meet two objectives: introducing children to exciting new stories and poems and helping them create a story-related craft to take home. Included in the activities are craft supply lists, poems, and stories to go along with each activity, and a list of additional books that relate to each theme. Sections of the book present activities involving animal pendants, books, bubbles, coyotes and rabbits, friends, hats, houses, Mr. Riddle and Dr. Twist, names, rain, rock art, snakes, story math, whales and the sea, and worms. The book also presents general craft activities involving book puzzles, boxes, door knob hangers, paper planes, fortune cookies, "I Love Books" vests, and making a pin to encourage reading. Annotations of 27 craft books, periodicals, resources for adults, resources for children, and books about origami are attached. (RS)
