This guide is a collection development tool of national scope for librarians who need in-depth coverage of Latino periodicals suitable for public, school, and academic libraries. Periodicals evaluated include general interest and popular magazines and newspapers that appeal to Spanish-speaking, bilingual, and English-speaking library patrons and more specialized journals for larger public and academic libraries. Entries are arranged by broad subject or type of publication, and separate title and topical indexes are provided. Guides to acquisition strategies and collection development techniques are included. Magazines are grouped into these categories: (1) bibliographies and indexes; (2) general interest; (3) Latin America; (4) business and professional; (5) current events; (6) literature and culture; (7) politics and social issues; (8) parenting; (9) sports and physical fitness; (10) focus on women; and (11) focus on teens. Also evaluated are newspapers and printed versions of Spanish-language soap operas. Appendixes list periodical distributors and describe the contributors to the guide. (SLD)
