This how-to manual for the beginning Internet user contains sections on: the authors; an overview of computer networking; Internet basics, including a glossary, information on getting connected and keeping current, and a bibliography; electronic mail, including electronic discussions and electronic journals: Internet Remote Login (Telnet); File Transfer Protocol (FTP), including how to download and translate files; Gopher, including Gopher searching using Veronica and Jughead; the World-Wide Web, including Mosaic, Netscape, and Lynx browsers; and Wide Area Information Servers. Most sections include exercises and a personal preparation checklist. A section gives information on fact sheets on Archie, BITNET, Eudora, Fetch, Free-Nets, HYTELNET, Internet, Internet Relay Chat (IRC), the InterNIC, LIBS (Library Internet Browsing Software), MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions, PINE, Project Gutenberg, RFCs (Requests for Comments), SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol), Usenet News, and the Z39.50 Standard for Information Retrieval are provided.
