Doing Urban Research. Applied Social Research Methods Series, Volume 33.
Andranovich, Gregory D.; Riposa, Gerry
A framework is provided for asking research questions and implementing an applied urban research project. Chapter 1 gives a brief overview of the term "urban" and the field of urban research. Chapter 2 discusses how different levels of analysis can be used in doing urban research. Chapter 3 suggests the need for strategic thinking in the applied research process and provides the steps in this process. Chapter 4 discusses issues facing the researcher in designing research projects, including a section on administrative principles and management techniques. Chapter 5 focuses on data collection, data sources, and techniques for obtaining data. Chapter 6 discusses the presentation of the research results, and chapter 7 provides a prospectus for urban research. Most chapters are followed by exercises to help the reader process and apply the information in the chapter. Twelve boxes highlight information, 2 figures illustrate the discussion, 5 tables present additional data, and 162 references are included. (SLD)
