Community College Fact Book. Macmillan Series on Higher Education.
El-Khawas, Elaine H., Comp.; And Others
Drawing from a variety of sources, this fact book highlights current data on community, technical, and junior colleges and looks at the social and demographic indicators bearing on the future of these institutions. First, an introductory section highlights major trends in enrollments, student characteristics, educational outcomes, finances, and staffing. Part I begins with a statistical profile of the nation's two-year colleges, providing figures on total enrollment, degrees conferred, faculty, faculty salaries, revenues, expenditures, sources of revenue, student characteristics, transfer rates, and minority enrollments and educational attainment. The remainder of the section looks at trends related to: (1) enrollment at two- and four-year colleges, full- and part-time enrollment trends, enrollment by minority group and sex, and enrollment projections; (2) college attendance rates among and characteristics of high school seniors; (3) the personal objectives and social and political attitudes of college freshmen; (4) transfer rates, academic persistence, and associate degree attainment; (5) changes in sources of community college revenues and in current-fund expenditures; and (6) administrator and faculty salaries and numbers. Part II presents demographic and economic data illustrating trends that may affect two-year institutions. Information is provided on patterns in educational attainment by age, income, region, and race/ethnicity; college enrollment rates; school enrollment trends; high school completion and achievement; population changes; changes in racial and ethnic distribution; household characteristics; and employment data.
