Addressed to undergraduate students in recreational and leisure service education and related subjects, this text deals with fundamental principles, practices, and the role of the recreationist in the community setting. Comprehensive background of information is provided that discusses the origins, forces, and political realities that have resulted in the modern recreational service movement. The text treats hierarchical structures of recreational service departments, administrative functions and responsibilities, as well as political realities insofar as daily operation of the agency is concerned. Specific topics dealing with conservation and environment, administration, leadership, programming, and evaluation are discussed.
