Letters in Exile; An Introductory Reader on the History of Pilipinos in America.
Quinsaat, Jesse, Ed.; And Others
A compilation of selected articles and photographs reflecting the history of the Pilipino in America, this anthology originated as a result of a need felt by Pilipino students at UCLA to investigate the little-known history of Pilipinos in this country. The articles portray significant themes in the Pilipino experience beginning with their initial immigration to Hawaii in the early 1900's. Organized into three main sections, the first includes articles which illustrate the conflict rooted in Pilipino immigration; the second, articles which relate how discriminatory practices and policies of various groups led to the social and legal exclusion of the Pilipino; and the third, articles which demonstrate the present plight of elderly Pilipinos. A bibliography is included. (Author/BS)
