Basic Learning Processes in Childhood.
Reese, Hayne W.
This book is an introduction to the psychological study of basic learning processes in children. Written for students who are not majors in psychology and who do not have much familiarity with the technical vocabulary of psychology, it has two themes: even the most basic kinds of learning are included by cognitive processes or mental activities; and basic learning is related to the organization of the material to be learned. After the introduction, the six chapters examine such topics as conditioning, discriminative learning, discriminative transfer, verbal learning, verbal transfer, and conceptual processes. Each chapter contains the following: a definition of the problem discussed in the chapter, a discussion of a representative study of the problem, an examination of methods and findings, and a discussion of findings of other surveys.
