This book should be of special interest to community college planners and administrators. It tells them what options are viable in the planning process, and what results to expect from their choices. It provides the philosophical framework for integrating academic, fiscal, and facility planning into campus master planning, and it examines the larger role that federal and state planners will play in coordinating these local plans into overall master plans. The authors argue for a change in emphasis from the community college campus to community college education, with increased access and true equality of opportunity. They urge that more attention be paid to the needs of older and disadvantaged students, to career education for diverse adult roles, and to special community characteristics and social needs. They provide promising developmental alternatives and evaluate innovative delivery systems, such as satellite centers, store front operations, mobile units, individual study packages, and multimedia instruction.
