The 1974-75 school year marked the fifth year of operation for the Division of Instructional Development at Utah State University. The model for Instructional Development (ID) consists of four parts: (1) developing faculty awareness; (2) capitalizing on faculty initiative, primarily through small-scale funding under a program of minigrants; (3) conducting faculty support activities where participating faculty members are released full-time for one quarter to work intensively on a project of their own choosing; and (4) working with an entire department to revise particularly important steps in the curriculum for its graduates. Through a series of survey techniques and interviews, this study gathers data about the program as perceived by faculty members. The conclusions are that there is considerable awareness of the ID programs across campus; that ID should not move entirely from individual-centered to department-centered activities; and that the program is generally held in high regard by USU faculty.
