Educational Choice in Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union: A Review Essay.
Heyneman, Stephen P.
Education Economics, v5 n3 p333-39 Dec 1997
Although the United States prides itself on individualism and free markets, parents in many other countries have more freedom of choice than Americans. This review describes Charles L. Glenn's book "Educational Freedom in Eastern Europe," provides background for choice in formerly communist countries, and summarizes dilemmas that choice brings to this region. School choice can succeed when effectively managed. (16 references) (MLH)
