Selected Offerings for Integrated and Applied Curriculum Development. Resource Document. Bulletin No. 95090.
Wisconsin State Dept. of Public Instruction, Madison.
This document was designed to help educators develop curriculum for secondary staff to implement the Tech Prep Initiative in Wisconsin. Resources listed were measured against guidelines that specified that the curriculum content and delivery must be integrated and applied, focusing on authentic tasks. The applied courses listed had to have high academic and occupational standards for all students, a common curriculum for all students, and not block a student from seeking any postsecondary option. Integrated courses had to have academic and vocational-technical content integrated, be based on emerging content standards and SCANS (Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills) competencies, and incorporate the best from both academic and vocational-technical disciplines. This guide lists the curriculum content in the following categories: integrated courses, applied courses, career/work-based learning, and occupational specific courses. Courses are also categorized by content discipline (agriculture, business, family and consumer, health occupations, marketing, technology, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies). In addition, the resource guide groups the integrated and applied curriculum by the tech prep consortium in which the school district is located. The document also includes a listing of tech prep coordinators or liaisons within individual districts and tech prep coordinators at the technical college level and their telephone numbers. (KC)
