Building Linkages/Building Fairness. Final Report.
Baldus, Lorayne; And Others
A program sought to: (1) identify and assess the needs of Wisconsin vocational personnel teaching within fields nontraditional for their sex; (2) conduct a workshop for nontraditional staff; and (3) develop and disseminate a database of resource persons and a handbook identifying those working in occupations nontraditional for their sex. The teachers were identified by instructional service directors of the state's 16 vocational, technical, and adult education colleges. These teachers were asked to complete a needs assessment questionnaire if they considered their teaching area to be nontraditional. Nineteen women and nine men responded. A seminar was held to address these areas as identified by the teachers: (1) functioning within an organization; (2) enhancing the nontraditional teachers' effectiveness; (3) dealing with bias and stereotyping; and (4) using networks and support groups. Workers in nontraditional occupations were identified by contacting graduates of vocational programs within the state, professional groups, and trade associations. The project identified 234 persons who agreed to have their names published in a directory. (Support materials in the document include letters to respondents, a seminar registration form, a seminar agenda, and seminar evaluation forms.) (CML)
