Prevocational Exploration Fine Arts and Humanities. Competency Based Curriculum.
Reese, Clara C.; Chenoweth, Roberta J.
This prevocational exploration curriculum is designed to provide occupational information and hands-on experiences pertaining to fine arts and humanities occupations to ninth and tenth grade students. The curriculum consists of 45 learning pacs, 43 of which each cover one job title. Information for each job title in a learning pac is provided in this format: career information (job title, duties, where employed, employment outlook, education and training, special qualifications, earnings and additional benefits, working conditions/lifestyles), occupational cluster, occupational family, representative job titles, occupational cluster, occupational competencies, resources needed to complete the pac, a list of learning objectives, a list of learning activities, evaluation procedures, student information sheets, and worksheets. The first and last learning pacs (an introduction and a culminating/review lesson) do not include career information. The job titles are organized into five units: visual arts (cartoonist, floral designer, jeweler, photographer, art teacher), literary arts (book editor, lexicographer), performing arts (instrumental musician, singer, dancer), technical arts (calligrapher, candlemaker, taxidermist), and humanities (historian and museum technician). Fifteen of the job titles are suggested for inclusion in a core curriculum. (YLB)
