Regardless of the relentless efforts of the federal and state government, as well as those of local school districts, students not completing high school continue to weigh down the educational system and society as a whole. Schools face the challenge of transforming the inclination for students to drop out of school with the associated damaging socioeconomic effects into an affirmative course of determination and school achievement. Locally, one school district has seen its dropout rate drop consistently over the last three years. What is this local system doing that others around are not? It seems that although factors that face high school dropouts are equivocal, no matter the demographic, there are solutions to the problem. While not having all the answers, this local district has found a process that works for its students and hopes to continue the downward trend of high school failure while still keeping its core beliefs, mission, and vision for student success at the forefront.
