Exploring Supervisor and Supervisee Experiences of Triadic Supervision
Derrick, Emily C.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, The University of Mississippi
This dissertation research focused on supervisor and supervisee experiences within the triadic supervision triad. Triadic supervision is an emerging method of supervision within counselor education. It is fast becoming the preferred mode of supervision in counselor education programs. Unfortunately, there is very little research to support the efficacy of this approach. This project focused on an area that has been under-studied in counselor education literature. I examined the perceptions and experiences of the supervisor and both supervisees within a specific triad. Current literature has examined supervisors' experiences in triadic supervision. Likewise, there is emerging research on experiences of supervisees within triadic supervision, but no study to date has examined the simultaneous experiences of an intact triad. This research was qualitative in nature and was conducted through in-depth face to face interviews. The data was analyzed using basic interpretive qualitative techniques. These findings will contribute to the limited but growing body of knowledge that exists concerning triadic supervision. Additionally, these findings will have the potential to improve understanding within counselor education about the experiences of those participating in triadic supervision. This research also has the potential to impact the way in which this form of supervision is delivered and the quality of supervision that future counselors-in-training receive.
