Social competency gained in early childhood influences numerous domains of a child's life throughout the lifespan. Since the preschool years are a time when children begin forming friendships with peers and may be exposed to a classroom setting for the first time, developing social competency is imperative for functioning well with the many people who enter their lives at this time. This program aims to teach parents how to help their children develop these necessary skills. Additionally, this program intends to address two issues related to children's well-being and social functioning: how psychological distress is transmitted intergenerationally and the impact of marital conflict on children.
