Social Studies. Exceptional Child Education Curriculum K-12. Volume I.
Jefferson County Public Schools, Louisville, KY.
This volume of the K-12 Social Studies curriculum for exceptional children covers the history of America, Kentucky, and Louisville/Jefferson County, from the time of American Indian settlements in these areas to the present. The curriculum guide provides: (1) objectives which parallel, as nearly as possible, the general education social studies course content and curriculum; (2) objectives addressing social studies requirements for graduation at high-school level; and (3) directions for the teacher regarding concepts and skills which should be covered in the instruction of social studies. For each objective, a task analysis, learning activities, and resource materials are listed. The instructional activities and materials are designed to: assist teachers in becoming more proficient in the content areas; make social studies concepts more meaningful to students; and increase student interest and imagination through active involvement in reenactments, simulations, documentaries, and other hands-on activities. A scope and sequence chart is included to list the content areas covered, to indicate grade levels in which specific content areas are addressed in the general education program, and to assist special education teachers in determining which objectives to cover at specific grade levels.
