Identifying and Validating Essential Competencies Needed for Entry and Advancement in Major Agriculture and Agribusiness Occupations. Final Report.
McClay, David R.
The nationwide study reported here was designed to (1) identify the essential agricultural competencies needed for entry employment and advancement in the major agriculture and agribusiness occupations and (2) validate the importance of identified competencies for each occupation. Following a brief project summary, the remainder of the report is comprised of the appendix in which the major 59 production agriculture and 139 agribusiness occupations surveyed in the study are listed by instructional area. Each occupation includes a job description, job competencies (each with sub-competencies), a weighted mean rating each competency on the degree of its importance, a brief description of the surveyed population, and the agency conducting the survey. The occupations are categorized according to the following seven instructional areas: production agriculture, agricultural supplies and services, agricultural mechanics, agricultural products, horticulture, renewable natural resources, and forestry.
