Using Digital Photographs to Improve Learning in Science
Lias, Sarah; Thomas, Colin
Primary Science Review, n76 p17-19 Jan-Feb 2003
The authors use digital photographs to help children recall "key events" in a practical activity--those moments that provide rich learning opportunities. The captured images of particular events helped the children to recall what they were doing at a particular time and prevented confusion over which event was being discussed. They also helped to keep the children's minds focused and provided a visual scaffold to support their descriptions and explanations. The photographs proved far more successful than any other props or strategies the authors have tried and they were most impressed with their potential for helping children to learn science activities.
