British Bluebells: Primary Upd8 Activity
Moon, Miranda; Oldershaw, Cally
Primary Science, n112 p33-35 Mar 2010
Bluebells in the woods and by the roadside in May are a colourful reminder that spring has arrived and summer is on the way. This is an ideal time to make the most of the outdoor classroom and enthuse children, with the opportunities for new learning experiences and observing the outdoors, finding answers to questions such as "Are all bluebells the same?" Teachers in the ASE "Primary upd8" team write activities that they know will work well with their children and provide suggestions on how to adapt the activities for those who may need further challenge or a little extra help. The teachers often trial the activities with their children before they are published on the website. This article describes a new British Bluebells "Primary upd8" activity that was written by a teacher and trialled with her class of 8 and 9 year-olds. The activity can be used to introduce children to the annual Natural History Museum survey or as a stand-alone activity. (Contains 4 figures and 1 box.)
