All that Glisters...
Vickers, Pete
Adults Learning, v19 n8 p26-27 Apr 2008
Adult learners with high support needs often have no means of progressing to further provision. In this article, the author discusses Quality Inclusive Pathways (QUIPs), a project creating local multi-agency learning pathways for these learners. The QUIPs project--developed directly from the stated needs of families, carers and the young people themselves who have few progression opportunities--endeavors to ensure that there is a local alternative for young people and adults who have high support needs. It retains further education at its core and adopts a person-centered approach. Community-based opportunities for leisure, day and evening activities are co-ordinated for each learner. Residential experience and independent living are offered too. Learning goals for each participant are transferred to the community-based providers by a designated tutor and met in a meaningful way.
