Confronting the Climate Emergency: A Commitment from UK Universities
Universities UK
The climate and ecological emergency is not new. For decades, universities have been at the forefront of efforts to combat climate change and embed sustainability in all areas of life across the UK. But the need for change is now more urgent than ever, and universities are playing their part. Universities are vital in tackling climate change. They are at the heart of innovation and, most importantly, are excellent spaces for multi-disciplinary research and cross-sectional thinking. This report presents the following contents to present the commitment from UK universities in confronting the climate change emergency: (1) Foreword by Dr Tara Shine; (2) Responding to the climate and ecological emergency; (3) Universities are ready to do even more; (4) What can the government do?; (5) Action not words: universities leading the way on climate action; and (6) Developing the next generation of climate leaders.
