Adaptability and Flexibility in Educational Facilities: Conclusions of a Seminar (Leicester, United Kingdom, June 19-22, 1989).
Clynes, Roger
The development of adaptable and flexible educational buildings and facilities to support changes in educational systems is the subject of this report. A summary of a seminar sponsored by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) comprises the first part of this report. Issues discussed include the nature of change and implications for building design, cost, quality control, increasing people's awareness, and the building process. The second part presents a report based on a study of recent examples of developments in OECD member countries. Topics addressed include not only new building design, but also the adaptation and improvement of existing ones, health and safety considerations, cost and management issues, informational technological concerns, and environmental aspects. The appendices include a list of contributors to the seminar and addresses of OECD publications sources. (LMI)
