The author, a teacher of surveying, examines the current status of women in the surveying profession in Britain. Finds that women have gained some ground but have not yet achieved equality in this overwhelmingly male occupation. (DM)

A study investigated the attitudes of British first-year polytechnic or university students (n=38) and employed graduates (n=80) in science and technology fields up to age 30, concerning their choice of science/technology or nonscience/technology fields. Results indicate why some students are deterred from science/technology. (Author/MSE)

Discussed is the decline of popularity of engineering studies in the United Kingdom, with consequent difficulties in the recruitment of a sufficient number of people into the profession. Possible solutions to the problem are presented, as well as, implications for future funding. (KR)
