Lessons on Motivation from Nicki Minaj
Treat, Carol Rava
Principal Leadership, v13 n6 p42-44, 46 Feb 2013
Hundreds of middle level and high schools are trying new strategies to improve attendance as an important path to improving achievement; graduation rates; and in many states, funding. Celebrity wake-up calls are just one of the tactics that school administrators are turning to as they look to leverage their own mix of sizzle and substance to motivate students. Over the past two and a half years, Get Schooled has studied, tried, and tracked how to connect with students on education issues. Get Schooled has seen what works--and what doesn't. Four central strategies have emerged: use gaming and competition, include the right messengers, incorporate mobile and social technology, and lead with humor.
