Analyzing Parent, Student and Staff Perceptions of School Climate and Their Relationship to Positive Culture in Elementary Schools of a North Texas School District
Matthew Clayton Rainey
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Dallas Baptist University
The current mixed methods study uses historical quantitative data collected from Qualtrics surveys with some qualitative data collected from seven elementary principals and two key informants to expand upon the quantitative data. The study was conducted in a large suburban school district in North Texas. The researcher used Qualtrics surveys from the 2022-2023 school year to analyze the relationship between parents, students, and staff's perceptions of school climate. The researcher then analyzed the data collected from the surveys to establish a ranking of schools within the district which was then used to identify the top ten principals of the top-ranked Title 1 and Non-Title schools. The researcher discovered that there is a significant relationship between parents and staff and a statistically significant relationship between parents and students. Additionally, insights were provided by principals regarding how to build and sustain a positive school culture. The data was then sorted into themes identified within the areas of academic, safety, community, and institutional environment. Findings of the current study suggest that the District should include 3rd grade in the student sample distribution of the Qualtrics surveys, use parents for focus groups regarding their perceptions about school culture, and allow campus principals to provide feedback about items on the parent, student, and staff Qualtrics surveys.
