Increasing Awareness and Practice of Spiritual Disciplines at Temple Baptist Church in Gainesville, Texas

This research project explores how awareness and participation in Christian spiritual disciplines increased among adults involved in Sunday school revitalization at Temple Baptist Church in Gainesville, Texas. The first two chapters include a biblical and theological basis for the spiritual disciplines and a brief historical sketch of Christian spirituality among the Reformed and evangelical traditions. This biblical and historical material prepare the reader to understand the "why" of the research project before the "what" of the class content and implementation is explored. The reader will also benefit from seeing how the pre and post spiritual growth assessments impacted the learning and changes of the adult participants. This project seeks to examine how Sunday school revitalization can begin with the implementation of one new Sunday school class on the spiritual disciplines, which are rich in biblical, theological, and historical content.
