Library/Information Skills for Quality Education.
Texas Education Agency, Austin.
Developed as a direct response to requests from librarians and principals for a scope and sequence guide for library/information skills for students in grades prekindergarten through 12, this document is designed to help librarians and teachers not only to present and document mastery of the mandated essential library/information skills, but also to exceed requirements through selecting additional skills for the curriculum in the promotion of quality education. Library/information skills as part of the school's curriculum are discussed, and skills drawn from the 12 areas outlined in the Texas State Board of Education Rules of Curriculum are enumerated on a grade-by-grade basis for grades prekindergarten through 8. The exact citations for the mandated skills are included in a column to the left of the outline format, and additional skills which should be taught in a quality program are also included in the outline. Skills for grades 9 through 12, which are outlined by course, are taken directly from the State Board of Education Rules for Curriculum and follow the format of that publication. (KM)
