Fristrup, Tine; Grut, Sara – Studies in the Education of Adults, 2016
In this article, we develop a framework that demonstrates how older adults need to develop diverse capabilities in relation to their educational life course through engagements in Nordic museums, archives and street art activities. Tucker-Drob, Elliot M.; Reynolds, Chandra A.; Finkel, Deborah; Pedersen, Nancy L. – Developmental Psychology, 2014
Aging-related declines occur in many different domains of cognitive function during middle and late adulthood. However, whether a global dimension underlies individual differences in changes in different domains of cognition and whether global genetic influences on cognitive changes exist is less clear. We addressed these issues by applying…

Morack, Jennifer; Ram, Nilam; Fauth, Elizabeth B.; Gerstorf, Denis – Developmental Psychology, 2013
Life-span developmentalists have long been interested in the nature of and the contributing factors to successful aging. Using variable-oriented approaches, research has revealed critical insights into the intricacies of human development and successful aging. In the present study, we opted instead for a more subgroup-oriented approach and…

Wahlin, Ake; Maitland, Scott B.; Backman, Lars; Dixon, Roger A. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 2003
Recent research has documented associations between subjective health ratings and objective indicators of disease and death. In this study, we explored whether subjective health ratings are related to episodic memory performance,…

Backman, Lars; Mantyla, Timo – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1988
Younger (N=24) and older subjects (N=24) generated one or three properties to set of 40 nouns. Subjects received incidental recall test immediately after, 1 week after, or 3 weeks after generation. Younger subjects recalled more nouns than did older subjects in all conditions, although both age groups exhibited high immediate recall. (Author/ ABL)

Finkel, Deborah; Pedersen, Nancy L.; Plomin, Robert; McClearn, Gerald E. – Developmental Psychology, 1998
Collected data on twins' performance on 13 cognitive variables measured three times at three-year intervals. Twins were monozygotic or dizygotic pairs reared together or apart and were in six cohorts ranging in age from 41 through 84 years. Found stable mean cognitive performance across time on eight measures for the younger cohorts, and…
