Ready to Work Test Scores: Differences between CTE Completers and Non-Completers
Christen Latrelle Thomas-Legette
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
The purpose of this quantitative causal-comparative study was to investigate to what extent there is a difference in the mean scores of the WIN R2W test scores (applied mathematics, locating information, reading for information, and essential soft skills) between those who completed and did not complete a CTE program. Parsons' trait factor theory of occupational choice and Makki, Javaid, and Bano Work Readiness Theory served as the theoretical foundation. The South Carolina State Department of Education provided the deidentified archival data for this study, which consisted of high school juniors enrolled in CTE courses who took the WIN R2W test in the 2018-2019 academic school year. A two-tailed independent t-test showed to what extent there is a difference in the mean scores of the WIN R2W test scores between those who completed and did not complete a CTE program. Descriptive statistics showed the demographics, completion frequencies, and mean and standard deviation for each WIN R2W test. Despite past research on this topic from the perspectives of students, parents, and teachers, there have been limited studies investigating to what extent there is a difference in the mean scores of the WIN R2W test scores between those who completed and did not complete a CTE program.
