Perceptions of High-Tech Assistive Technology Held by Students with Visual Impairments
Booths, Autumn L.
Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, v116 n4 p558-562 Jul-Aug 2022
Students who have visual impairments (i.e., those who are blind or have low vision) have additional difficulties accessing educational materials as compared to their typically sighted peers. Teachers of students with visual impairments need to be prepared to teach their students assistive technology skills that are both general and device-specific, depending on the student's needs. The focus of the present study will be "high-tech assistive technology." This research explores the questions: (1) How do students perceive high-tech assistive technology? and (2) What do they find to be effective or ineffective in high-tech assistive technology, and what is their reasoning?
